Scary Stuff: Part 11

I Am Renting a Haunted Commercial Space

The haunted part of the commercial space I am currently renting only surfaced after my business partner and I paid for the property for an entire year. This happened when I started questioning why I don't understand how our inventory suddenly adds or disappears, that's when my staff revealed that prior to us taking over the bar, the previous owner had the same issue with liquid stocks randomly either increase or decrease. This is a little bit hard considering that it's liquid cocktails inside huge containers that changes in contents overnight. Our staff also admitted of having encountered this entity on many occasions to the point of seeing physical apparitions.

One staff said that there were two, a woman and a kid. The kid is the mischievous one, usually playing tricks on them, mostly playing with the doorknobs of the rooms. The woman they've seen, young and long-haired gliding up the stairs or at the hallway at random hours only to find no one was actually on the second floor. The little boy is described as a 9-year-old about 4 feet tall wearing a simple tee and shorts who seem to like playing around the premises. This intrigued me so much that I said I'd like to experience their presence one day soon. And exactly after one day a staff reported about a stock waste since a can of Coke that was pressed up against the wall in the middle of a box was found open, but the unusual part was that the aluminum was tore open beyond its groove line, the can was ripped with the tab and rivet vertically pulled up until near the edge of the lid that I was dumbfounded at the sight of it. It took a lot of energy to do that, plus its location was out of reach from random customers, and I'm not sure if rats do that, but the only thing that came to mind was that the ghost took my call and made its presence known without delay.

The next encounter I had was when I was alone on the second floor installing soundproof panels. One room I messed up the measurement by 10cm despite repeatedly checking that I got the measurements right before doing anything. It was annoying, but the creepier part happened a week after when I installed another set of soundproof panels on the wall of another room, just after I finished I tested my bravery by turning off the light so I could sit to rest for a bit. It didn't take fifteen seconds for one panel to fly off the wall and hit me on my arm. I had to turn on the light a check for anything wrong, but everything was sound, even the wall where the panel fell from was completely normal, save for that one square that fell on me. I casually spoke out loud for whoever did it not to mess with the room because we are yet to make an ROI. I glued the panel on the same spot where it fell, then it never came off after that.

If that wasn't enough, a third encounter on the second floor happened to me and my business partner, this time it was his cellphone appearing in a different room after it disappeared from the area where we both saw he left it. Since we were busy with making improvements in one room, he left his phone on top of the box in the hallway while we did some fixing in one room. Right when we were about to leave, he realized his phone was no longer there. It was impossible for someone to go up the second floor without us noticing because every person who goes up the metal stairs could easily be heard as the floor also tend to vibrate due to the lack of its structural integrity. We searched for it all over only to find it neatly placed on a stool in one of the rooms.

The most annoying part is when they make their presence known to our customers. There are three incidences involving many witnesses that were reported to me by our staff. The first was that a group of young customers surprised one of the staff as she opened the door to serve the group's food. She was shocked when one of the kids exclaimed "WHOA!" as if trying to pounce on her, but they were surprised when she stood there on the other side of the door. They apologized and explained that prior to her serving the food they had been annoyed with knockings and twisting of the doorknob several times, and every time they opened it there was no one there, plus they were the only customers on the second floor then.

Another incident reported to me was that the stage's spotlight suddenly turned on one night. There were a couple of regular customers chatting with our servers out in the dining area when out of nowhere the bright spotlight in the middle of the room lit up. The switch was in the kitchen area where no one was at that time. My staff rushed in to see as the room fell quiet, only to find the switch had been turned on. When they told me this, I went to check since there might be a logical explanation for it, but it only made less sense when I tried to turn on the switch and it was quite stuck and difficult to turn without exerting much effort because we normal never turn on that particular spot light. I tried flipping the switch on and off to see how a possible tap could likely have caused it to turn by the wind or a cat maybe, but the more I tried the less reason I found for it to be accidental. I asked if it was a glitch in the wiring, but everyone insisted that it was the actual switch that was turned from off to on why the light opened. Thankfully our regular customers remained loyal even after that creepy incident.

Probably the only one that went straight to the point was when one of our regular customers asked our staff why there was a kid playing in the kitchen. He sat at the end of the room facing the bar, and behind the bar is a small window where we would put out the prepared food for serving. Since it was a slow evening, the cook was out of the kitchen and chatting with the customer, and that's when he described the kid going back and forth, with just his head passing in and out of the window frame. He described the kid exactly as how other stay-in staff of adjacent rental units described the ghost child they would randomly see when it felt like playing tricks on them. The customer later on revealed that he has his third-eye open, that's why he would occasionally see the little boy chilling at our bar on random nights, no particular pattern, just a familiar resident ghost making itself known.
